Beaconsfield Golf Club features a historically significant and distinctive golf course, one of the few in Montreal to remain in its original location. Founded in 1904, it was not until 1941 when the members would call upon Stanley Thompson (1893-1953) to renovate the existing Willie Park Jr. design. The changes that followed were so extensive that the new layout was widely considered a Thompson original.
While restoration of Mr. Thompson’s work is important, this plan principally aims to improve the overall function of the golf course to place the golf course superintendent in an advantageous position to present optimal playing conditions more consistently. This is most important. It’s the necessity of doing so that presents other restorative-based opportunities to enhance the playing interest and presentation of the course.
Resolving drainage deficiencies throughout the course with focus on the putting surfaces, approaches into the greens, fairways in general and, of course, bunkers is key to genuinely improving the golfing experience at Beaconsfield.
